Eastman Johnson
1824 – 1906
Eastman Johnson was one of the leading American painters of the nineteenth century. After training in Düsseldorf and The Hague, where he studied the Dutch masters, he returned home to paint tender, truthful scenes of family life, children and country work, together with portraits of many prominent Americans. His warm firelit interiors earned him the nickname "the American Rembrandt".
