David Roberts
1796 – 1864
David Roberts was a Scottish painter famed for his sweeping views of Egypt and the Holy Land. Travelling through the region in 1838–39, he produced meticulous, atmospheric lithographs of temples, ruins and cities—Abu Simbel, Karnak, Philae—that shaped how Europe pictured the ancient East.
