Claude Monet
1840 – 1926
Claude Monet was the leading figure of Impressionism, a movement his painting Impression, Sunrise gave its name. Obsessed with light and its changes, he painted the same subjects—haystacks, cathedrals, his water-lily pond at Giverny—again and again across the hours and seasons, dissolving form into pure colour and atmosphere.
